Southern Command
Lt Gen CP Mohanty, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, is a highly decorated, experienced and accomplished General Officer.
An alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, Graduate of National Defence Academy(NDA), Kharagvasla and Indian Military Academy(IMA), Dehradun, the Gen Officer, as an Infantry Officer, was commissioned into The Rajput Regiment on 12 Jun 1982. He is qualified in most of the prestigious Military Courses which include Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Higher Defence Management Course, Secunderabad and National Defence College, New Delhi.
He has, in his illustrious career spanning over 38 years, served across a wide spectrum of conflicts and terrain profiles and has tenated a host of command, Staff and Instructional appointments. He has been a Company Commander in Counter Terrorism environment in J&K, Battalion Commander on the Line of Control(LOC) also in J&K and later on in North East. During this period he led his battalion in CI Ops in Assam and the famous “Operations All Clear”. He has the unique distinction of Commanding two Brigades; at first on the Line of Actual Control opposite China and later on he was nominated to head the multinational UN Brigade in Democratic Republic of Congo where he was awarded Sena Medal for successfully leading a Number of helibone operations against armed insurgent groups. He Commanded the Rangiya based Division in “Op Rhino” in Counter Insurgency environment. The Division conducted a No of successful ops against the NDFB & ULFA terrorists breaking their backbone to bring back peace to Assam. The General Officer was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his contributions. The Gen Offr has been the Director General operational Logistics & Strategic Movement at Integrated HQ of MoD in New Delhi. The General Offr has commanded the elite 33 Corps in Sikkim immediately after Doklam incident; when the corps was going through a challenging op envt. The General Officer has a unique distinction of commanding two Administrative formations as well i.e Jodhpur Sub Area as a Maj Gen & Uttar Bharat Area as a Lt Gen.

The General Officer’s staff and instructional assignments include, Instructional tenure at NDA, Bridge Major of an Armoured Brigade, Military Advisor in Seychelles, Colonel Military Secretary (Selection) in the MS Branch and Brigadier General Staff (Ops) of a Corps in the Eastern Theatre.
Academically inclined, the General has researched extensively on China, South Asia & North East and is deemed to be an expert in these fields. He was awarded M.Phil in Defence Studies from Madras University and also holds two Masters Degrees in Defence Studies and Management Studies. The General officer is a keen sportsman and has special interest in keeping himself physically fit through Yoga.
The General Officer is also the Colonel of The Rajput Regiment.
The Gen Offr is well supported by his wife Mrs Mamun Mohanty, a distinguished academician in her own rights; being a Gold Medalist in (Physics) and also has a Gold Medal in Classical Dance from Allahabad University. She has been a renowned Odissi dancer. She constantly follows her passion in gardening, painting, block printing, music & dance. She has also been an academics counselor. The lady is multi talented and has effectively contributed in all the fields affecting the families of Offrs and men under command of the Gen Officer.
The couple is blessed with one son, Mr Kaustav Mohanty. He is an alumnus of BITS, Pilani & has recently completed his PhD studies from USA and is employed with GE Health Care in Milwake, USA.
